Asian Business Leaders Conclave, Malaysia

New Delhi, 30th November, 2017: Mr GM Rao, Group Chairman, GMR Group, was awarded ‘The Economic Times Most Inspiring Business Leader in Asia’ by Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia in a ceremony held in Malaysia last evening. The two day event titled ‘The Economic Times Asian Business Leaders Conclave’ was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 29 and 30, 2017.
The second edition of the event with the theme ‘Taking Asia to the Globe’, saw participation from Entrepreneurs, Business owners, Policy makers and Senior Government authorities across Asia. The discussions pondered upon ways to successfully assert Asia’s position as the torchbearer for the global economy.
The conference emphasised that for Asia to become and sustain as a true super power, strong collaboration and trust is required amongst all the Asian countries. Leadership discussions amongst the top Asian companies threw light on what is expected of the business fraternity and the governments at large for cementing Asia’s position as the hub for doing business.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr GM Rao said, “I accept this award in all humility on behalf of the GMR Group and our beloved nation. If one goes through the Asian history, one would find that some 1000 years back, India played a major role in contributing to Asia’s GDP and along with another neighboring nation to the World GDP. Most of the Asian countries were quite advanced as they collaborated well and lived like one country. In fact, Asian countries have given phenomenal gifts to the world in the form of spirituality, science, astronomy, yoga, mathematics and much more. As a diversified global infrastructure conglomerate, the GMR Group is constantly working on Nation Building initiatives.”
He added, “Asian companies should learn from western multinationals on how successfully they run generations after generations. Asians are tremendous entrepreneurs, and we can create big multinationals if we have a strong ‘Family Governance’. It is critical for the long term sustainable economic development of the country.”
The conclave’s key highlight was the address by the Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak. He described Malaysia as India’s gateway to ASEAN and beyond. The conclave also saw the presence of Honorable Ministers of Bangladesh, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and High Commissioner of Philippines.
