Leaders from across the political spectrum along with common citizens recall
his life of service as central minister, parliamentarian, Telangana statehood
leader and a one-time APCC President.
Hyderabad, December 2024: To commemorate the 22nd Death Anniversary of former union minister and APCC President, Dr. Mallikarjun, prominent dignitaries including Congress leaders Dr. C. Vamshi Chand Reddy, special invitee CWC and ex-MLA; Mr Yennam Srinivas Reddy, MLA Mahabubnagar; Mr Janampalli Anirudh Reddy, MLA Jadcherla; Mr Gurunath Reddy, Chairman Telangana State Police Housing Corporation and ex-MLA; Mr Manu Mallikarjun, son of Late Dr Mallikarjun; Obaiduallah Kotwal, Chairman, Telangana State Minority Finance Corporation (TSMFC) & Ex-DCC President; along with other leaders and citizens, paid tributes to him at his statue in Mahabubnagar.
The gathered leaders recalled Dr. Mallikarjun’s contributions towards the nation’s development particularly during his tenures as Minister of State for Defence and Minister of state for Railways, his role as a student leader during the Telangana agitation of 1969, in strengthening the Congress party as the APCC President, as well as his pivotal role in the development of Mahabubnagar parliamentary constituency.
Dr. Mallikarjun, who was elected to the Lok Sabha six times, had begun his career in public service with the Telangana agitation of 1969 during which he played a central role as a student union leader hailing from Osmania University where he was studying medicine. He went on to serve the nation under Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao even as he continued his lifelong support to the Telangana cause that culminated in his stewardship of Congress Forum for Telangana before his demise on 24th December, 2002.
