New Delhi, October 14, 2020: Parampara Family Business Institute (PFBI), a non-profit research and educational institute under GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF), the CSR arm of GMR Group, is delighted to announce its upcoming online symposium – ‘Togetherness in a Large, Multi-generation Family Firm- Is it “impossible” to stay together in the long run?’ on 17th October, 2020 between 5pm and 6pm.
This is the 5th symposium of its series – ‘Essential Mantras for Family Business’. The one hour symposium will have Mr. Antoine Mayaud (Chairman of CreAdev, Board Member of Association Familiale Mulliez) as speaker and Mr. Peter Leach (Founder and Chairman of Peter Leach Associates Ltd.) as expert moderator.
As family businesses progress into the next generations, the entrepreneurial spirit and risk appetite tends to diminish. Moreover, as the size of the family grows the business needs to expand/scale-up proportionately in order to provide for adequate opportunities for the growing number of members. Geographical spread, varied skills and interests as well as personality differences can make it difficult to grow and sustain the entrepreneurial spirit and instead become vulnerable to get disintegrated / split. However, there are great examples of some highly successful family enterprises who have got it right staying together.

In this 60 minutes of interactive session, the guest speaker will share with share the lesser known facts & his personal journey in sustaining the entrepreneurial culture of this large, multi-generation family business.
About the Speaker:
Mr. Antoine Mayaud, a trained agricultural engineer, spent the first 12 years of his career working within this field in Morocco, western Africa and last in France. At the age of 35, he joined Danone where he worked for 13 years as responsible for their industrial organizations in France, Italy and finally all over Europe.
In 1994, while still at Danone, he was appointed by his family (Mulliez family) to the family board. When re-elected in 1998, he left Danone in order to concentrate fully on the AFM in two fields: First, as chairman of the family Equity fund, “CreAdev“, which would assist family or non- family young entrepreneurs, hence promoting the entrepreneurial spirit and helping to develop the AFM portfolio. Secondly, he wanted to help develop the togetherness (get family and their enterprises to keep as close as possible to one another) through training, education and by involving as many of them as possible as non- executive directors or employees in the businesses affiliated to the AFM.
Antoine was also chairman of Pimkie group, a business leader in the field of women’s fashion, from 2004 to 2009. Since 2017 he spends full time helping other families invent their future by “opening the field of possible”.

Mr. Peter Leach is a family business expert who focuses on working with multi-generational family businesses on governance issues. He is regarded as one of the founding fathers of family business thinking and has been a leader in this field for over 30 years.
